We Are More Than Conquerors

“And what shall I more say? for the time would fail me to tell of [Gideon], and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets: Who through faith subdued kingdoms, [worked] righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions,”

Hebrews 11:32-33

I love to read, but I don’t often have the time to do it. I love to read autobiographies and learn of people who did great things. I like to learn from these people and take notes of what I read. I dog-ear the pages throughout the book as I mark my favorite passages and underline my favorite quotes. I travelled quite a bit this year, and I was able to read several books along the way. I love time on a plane as there are no distractions, and I am able to focus on reading and taking physical and mental notes.

I also cherish the mornings as I am able to open the Word and spend quality quiet time. I recently read through the books of Samuel and learned about the great works of God. He used ordinary men to do extraordinary things because they simply had the faith to believe. Some of these individuals were prayed for before they were born, and others continued to pray even in the face of death. God used these people to defeat giants and deliver His people through adverse situations.

God requires faith over talent, skill, and leadership qualities. He is able to give you all the things you need if you only have the faith to believe that He will. There is not enough time to tell of the mighty works He was able to do through ordinary people because of the tremendous faith they had. It is amazing the history that can be written when you simply trust God to write it.

When I read of the great works God has done through His people I am both inspired and convicted. I know there will be nothing more added to the Bible, but I often wonder what history God will write about me. What will He do through my life if I will simply have the faith to allow Him to work? What great things will He do if I simply will take Him at His Word?

Your name may not be Samson or Samuel, but you have a specific name God has given you – a purpose for which He has called you and a reason for seeing the current year you live in. He has a specific plan for your life, so do you have the faith to fulfill what He has called you to do? Do you have the faith to shut the mouth of lions and to subdue the kingdoms He has called you to subdue? May great things be written about our God through the lives we live, and may we impact eternity by the faith we have in our God. As William Carey stated, “Expect great things from God. Attempt great things for God.”
