“The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John: Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw. Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.”Revelation 1:1-3
Every year at school we had a book fair and in preparation for that, the vendor would give us a preview catalog to give to our parents. I would scout out the catalog looking for fun books instead of paying attention to whatever educational book I was supposed to be reading at the time. I would then take the catalog home and ask my parents for the many books I had circled on each page.
I never had to convince my parents much to buy me books, although I believe they were more inclined to check out the free ones at the library. I was usually allowed a couple of books, and I could not wait to tear into them. I was not supposed to read them during class, so every day immediately following the book fair, I would rush home to read.
One year, the book fair had a couple of selections which had alternate endings. Once you got to a certain point in the book, you could choose which page to go to next based on what you wanted the characters to do in the story. I would read every ending and then reread the book and finish with the ending that suited me best. I often had suggestions for the author, even though I carried a solid ‘D’ in English class.
Revelation tells us the end of the story, and there are no alternate endings or opportunities to finish with an ending that suits you better. God has revealed to us what will come in the end, which will be glorious for those who chose God in this life, and disastrous for those who chose not to accept Him.
We often worry as if we have not read the last chapter. We fret as if God loses in the end. We lack basic faith in God even when we know the details of what is to come. We live like there is no upcoming destruction for unbelievers, and we fail to tell others as if there is no judgement in the end. Our world is growing worse and worse as the days go by, and it does take much to see that the time is at hand.
Where are you today friend? Do you see the turmoil, natural disasters, and evil being called good? Matthew 24:6-8 states, “And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.” Do you see that the time of sorrows are beginning? Do you realize God has revealed this to us for a purpose? Are you obeying the things God has commanded you to do? The time to quit playing is now, for the time is at hand. May we redeem the time and may we live as those who are on the winning side.
