“And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Speak unto Aaron and unto his sons, saying, On this wise (this is the way) ye shall bless the children of Israel, saying unto them, The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace. And they shall put my name upon the children of Israel; and I will bless them”Numbers 6:22-27
I have lived a full life in the 45 years God has given me on this earth. I have gotten to go to places I only dreamed of, and I have stayed in places where I did snow angels in the bed due to my excitement. I have put my feet in the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean in the same year, and I have flown more times than I can recall. I have seen the sun rise on a mountain in Hawaii, and I have had the privilege of living in a state with the most beautiful sunsets. I have hiked the Grand Canyon and seen God’s beauty up close as I dropped beads of sweat on the Bright Angel Trail.
I have also had the privilege to marry my high school sweetheart, and I have been blessed with three wonderful children. I have a roof over my head, cars in the garage, and a closet full of clothes. I have been blessed with a good job, and I have not missed a meal in my life. God has given me the ability to see and hear, and a sniffer that sometimes gets me in trouble. He has blessed me with a wonderful church where I have met several friends, and He has given me the opportunities to serve Him in various ministries. I have the freedom to read His Word and attend church as I please.
You cannot purchase the blessing of God, and the value of His blessing is beyond any earthly value. The trials and heartbreaks of life cannot be appeased or comforted by earthly means, but there is only hope found in Him. In the nighttime when sleep evades due to physical or emotional pain, God is the only One who can bring comfort. Oh how we pray in those moments that He would shine His face upon us and that He would hear our cry. The world often looks at the blessings of God as tangible things, but His richest blessings are found in His Word and in the tear-filled prayers of crying out to Him. The ability to cry “Abba Father” in times of sorrow and in times of joy is a blessing that cannot be given by anyone else but almighty God.
Aaron delivered the news of blessing to the children of Israel, but it was God who delivered the blessing to His people. There is nothing like the peace of God as stated in Philippians 4:7, “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” His peace that transcends our understanding will keep us steady in moments of fear, anxiety, and in the nights when there are not enough sheep to count.
Do you seek the true blessings of God or do you just desire the wealth of this world? Do you ask upon your own desires or do your prayers contain eternal value? Are you thankful to God for all that He has done and all that He continues to do? Do you easily forget His face that shines upon you? May we be thankful in all things and may we not take for granted the favor and blessings of almighty God.
