The Beginning and End

“I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.”

Revelations 1:8

I remember walking into the principal‘s office one day (this was a typical occurrence for me) and seeing a sign on the secretary’s desk that puzzled me. The sign read, “The buck stops here”. I was a little kid and didn’t know quite what it meant, so when I got home, I asked my parents about it. I came to realize that it meant ultimate responsibility could not be passed on to someone else.

I don’t remember the moment when I was born, and I won’t remember the moment when I die. What I do know, though, is that I will have to take ultimate responsibility for my life and I will not be able to pass the buck on judgement day. I must face the music and take responsibility for the things I did and didn’t do in the time that God gave me on earth. There will be no finger-pointing and the spotlight will be directly on me.

God not only knows my beginning and end but He is the beginning and the end. He is not bound by time, and He is responsible for the creation of our world and will see to the rebuilding of the new world. He was here before time began and is responsible for all the amazing design we see around us and in our vast universe. The world was created for His glory, just as we are. We were not created to do our own will, but the will of the Father who created us. We often get caught up in our sin and selfish agendas, but that is direct rebellion against God. We think we are guaranteed tomorrow, but one day for each of us, tomorrow will not come. Our life is but a dash from the day we were born until the day we die and enter into eternity. God’s “life” is a circle which has no beginning and no ending.

Are you obeying the will of the Father with your life or are you in direction rebellion to the Alpha and Omega? Have you come to realize that He has created you for a reason and a purpose? Do you realize He is responsible for all creation – including you – or are you trying to explain creation through other means? God has not changed since the beginning, and He will not change for all eternity. If you are His, He will return for His own. Will you be ready for His coming? Will you live your life for Him? May we come to realize He is the beginning and the end, and may we come to know that real life is only complete in Him.
