“Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.”II John 1:9-11
I have had a lot of people come to my door trying to sell me something or convert me over to a new religion. At my house now, I have a courtyard with a gate so door traffic is way down. I have heard sales pitches for everything from stain cleaner to magazines. My wife says I am a sucker so our house is on “the list” as one that would purchase almost anything. If I have time I will listen, and if they are courteous they will get a sale out of me.
I have had some come by proclaiming a religion that is not true, one that is against the Word of God and one that will send you to hell. I have encountered some on the street whom I have contended with, and I have yet to convince them of the true gospel and the true God. I know some who have grown angry about the truth I was proclaiming, and I had to rely on God’s help for me not to lose my cool. Proverbs 14:12 states, “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.”
There are many ways that may seem right to a person, but our Creator God makes it clear there is the TRUTH and anything contrary to that is lies. John 14:6 states, “Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” We must be careful what doctrine or teachings we entertain, and we must be careful about those whom we allow in our house (or on our Facebook feeds). We are to be kind and loving but we are not to receive them into our house or bid them welcome. Our goal is to promote the truth and expose that which is false, and we must stand with our God and not with a contrary doctrine.
Are you guilty of entertaining a false doctrine? Have you bid welcome in your home or on your social media to someone who was teaching a false religion? Do you believe in the truth or are you simply doing what seems right to you? II Timothy 2:15 states, “Study to [show] thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” Do you know the truth as much as you should? Are you a student of the Word or are you persuaded by anything and everything you hear? May we be a follower of Jesus Christ and may we not be a partaker of the evil deeds of those who oppose Him. Know the truth, live the truth, and speak the truth.
