High And Lifted Up

“In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train (of his robe) filled the temple. Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain (two) he covered his face, and with twain (two) he covered his feet, and with twain (two) he did fly. And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.”

Isaiah 6:1-3

I have heard God called many things in my time on this earth, and some of the names are blasphemous and outright wicked like, “sky daddy” and “the man upstairs”. People have portrayed God in a way that makes it obvious they have no clue who He is. Many people would like to live in a world void of consequences and guilt, so they strive to make less of a holy God. God cannot be labeled with man’s words, and there is coming a time when the world will bow under His great power and authority.

I know the world takes God lightly, but I think we as Christians take Him lightly as well. I think back to my teenage years and the vileness that erupted out of my mouth, which prolonged into early adulthood. At first, I would pause before taking God’s name in vain, but it soon became a bad habit and I no longer cringed when the words escaped my mouth. I became quite comfortable with taking His name lightly, and I lost the shame of using those wicked words. I am thankful God gave me victory over that, but sadly, it does not stop there.

I have lived many days when I never opened God’s Word, and there have been many days when I have not prayed to Him except before a meal, if I even did that. Days have gone by when I did not even acknowledge His presence even though it surrounded me like the great walls of the Grand Canyon. I have been sitting in a church service more concerned about my favorite team than I was from hearing from God. At that time, I would never take His name in vain, but my actions and lack of actions said far more than my vile words.

God is not “the man upstairs” or someone who is just up there playing around. God is the Creator of the vast universe of which we know very little about. He is holy and no man can set eyes upon Him and live. His words spoke the world into existence, yet He has no start or end date. He is known by many things, but one of His greatest attributes is that He is holy. He is without spot or blemish and without sin. We are made in His image, but His ways and thoughts are far above ours. He is not manipulated by man and He cannot be bargained with. He is holy almighty God and no matter if the world tries to tear Him down, He remains high and lifted up.

What is your viewpoint on God? Do you see Him high and lifted up or do you treat Him like your personal genie? Do you take His name in vain and think nothing of it? Do you take Him lightly by not reading His word or praying? Do you acknowledge His glory? What place does He have in your life? Does He have the preeminence or is He buried down at the bottom of your priority list like your dusty Bible? May we reverence our God in the words we speak, and may our actions back up our words. We will spend all eternity praising Him and crying “Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts”. Let’s not wait until we get to Heaven to sing of His praises and let’s live a life now in which our actions place Him in His rightful place.

Stay in the Fight!
