“Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.”I Thessalonians 5:24
I think of the many times in my life when I was asked to do something that I had no business doing. I have been asked to be a deacon, bus captain and driver, Vacation Bible School speaker, and countless other things I did not feel qualified to do. I even led the singing at church for a time, and if you have heard me sing, then you would know this had to be of God. I am at my best singing “so-low-you-can’t-hear-me” and not a singing a solo, if you catch my drift. I am learning that God is the One who will enable you if He is the One who has called you.
I was asked in 2006 by my pastor at the time to start a small Christian school, and he wanted me to be the principal. I knew I had no business being the principal of a school, even though it started with only five girls. I should have been scared more of the five girls, but it is neat how God gave me a special relationship with those girls who are now young ladies. Little did I know, one of the five would become my own daughter, and I am grateful how God worked all that out.
It is funny how, at the time, I did not look at what I could not do, as I firmly believed that God called me to be part of that school ministry. I left my job and trusted Him to enable me to do what He had called me to do. God had clearly given me a peace to leave my job and take on this new role, which included many hats such as counselor, secretary, P.E. teacher, peacemaker, and the ever glorious janitor. I will forever be grateful for how God used this ministry in my life, and the eternal ramifications that came from it.
What is God calling you to do that you just need to just step out and obey Him in? Do you believe God is able to fulfill in you what He has called you to do? God is always faithful to keep that which He has committed, and He is unable to break a promise. We are limited by our lack of faith, but we cannot please Him without it. Will you allow God to do big things through you? Will you allow Him to finish what He has called you to do? It has been said, “Never doubt in the night what God has shown you in the light.” God used Moses to part the Red Sea, so what will you allow Him to do through you?
