Come On In The Ground Is Dry

“By faith they passed through the Red sea as by dry land: which the Egyptians [attempting] to do were drowned.”

Hebrews 11:29

I visited Universal Studios when I was 17 and was amazed at all the “behind the scenes” items they had. It was neat going backstage and learning the science of movie making. I saw how some of my favorite movies were made, and got to see some live staged movie renditions. I went on a backstage tram tour that allowed me to ride on a vehicle that took me behind the scenes and sets of famous shows and movies. I thoroughly enjoyed the ride, but something on that tour caught my eye more than anything else.

On the tram tour, there was water in a man-made lake that had two metal gates on each side. The gates came up and blocked the water, and this setup was used in the movie, “The Ten Commandments”. The movie scene was of the parting of the Red Sea but this was a very small display in comparison to the actual Red Sea. Hollywood has a way of making small things seem real, and they are able to use these sets to make movie magic. The Red Sea is just over 190 miles across at its widest point, and about 1,200 miles in length. I am not sure of the dimensions of the Universal Studios set, but I can assure you it is not even 1000 feet long or wide.

Can you imagine being surrounded by your enemy and the only option is to get into the Red Sea? Can you imagine being led to that position by God? Can you imagine if you were one who couldn’t swim? For the children of Israel, it seemed like impending doom, but by faith, Moses stretched out his hand out and caused the sea to go back. The people still had to have faith that the sea would not return as they took a step onto the dry land between the parted waters. I can imagine they were apprehensive as the strong wind held the water at bay. It took faith to take the first step, but it was to the saving of their life.

Universal Studios mimicked on a very small scale the parting of the Red Sea, but only almighty God could part that great sea and cause the ground to be dry. Moses had the initial faith to obey God by stretching out his hand, and the people had faith to cross through the Red Sea. In our lives, we encounter “Universal Studios-size” partings and refuse to have faith to walk through even those. We get nervous and scared as we see the walls of water surrounding us, and we question God every step of the way. We don’t have the faith for Him to show us the actual Red Sea, because we lack the faith to go through the small things He has shown us.

What about you friend? Would you have had the faith to cross the Red Sea? What has God parted in your life that you refuse to pass through? Do you have “Red Sea faith” or “Universal Studios faith”? God is able to do all things if we were only to have the faith of a tiny mustard seed. Are you willing to trust Him today? Are you willing to take a step onto dry land and allow Him to lead you? Will you have the faith to do great things for God this year? What will be said of you when your time has gone? Will someone say you had faith to pass through the door God opened for you? May we pass through where God leads us and may He get the glory for the great things He has done.

Stay in the Fight!
